Rip, ripping

The process of transferring a sound recording or audiovisual work originally recorded in a commercial medium such as a compact disc or DVD to another, typically highly portable, device and in the process converting it to the appropriate format. Very often a prima facie infringement of copyright though frequently permitted by the copyright owner.
